5 tips to help you thrive in 2018

Advance, Succeed and Shine

It’s an age-old tradition at the start of each new year – resolving to do better.

But what if rather than coming up with a crazy list of goals that are long forgotten when February rolls around, you took a few simple steps sure to help you thrive in 2018?

It all comes down to habit creation – homing in on a few proactive skills that are sure to help you advance, succeed and shine.

Antonio Neves (@TheAntonioNeves), millenial workplace speaker and author, recently shared his top tips with Inc.

  • Be consistent. We’re all fired up when a new year begins, but consistency is the real game-changer in a successful career. Find your flow.
  • Know what’s most important. Seems obvious, right, but often, tasks and projects haven’t been prioritized by the manager handing out the to do’s. Start asking, “What’s most important about this quarter or this week?”
  • Maintain and build strong relationships. Don’t wait to connect until you need something. It’s bad form, and unsuccessful. Ask yourself, “How can I add value to people in my network?” Then reach out to your connections with suggested reading, kind introductions or a listening ear.
  • Communicate with confidence. When it comes to business communication, are you a rambler or a pro at being pithy? Focus on improving your email writing, report writing and even phone message skills, being sure you’re clear, succinct and include an understandable ask. Your contacts will thank you.
  • Focus on self-care. Sounds selfish, but it’s not. Being a good giver at work requires fuel. Pay attention to what you’re eating, incorporate mindfulness practices and nourish your relationships. Self-care keeps you going when others burn out.
